Committee on Southern Asian Studies

The focus of the Committee on Southern Asian Studies (COSAS), which is supported through a University endowment, is to support and implement faculty and student academic and research projects that broadly encompass the study of South and Southeast Asia.
Affiliates and members of COSAS have scholarly expertise in South Asia, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka; and in Southeast Asia, Burma (Myanmar), Cambodia, East Timor, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Tibet (as an autonomous region), and Vietnam.
COSAS provides a Dissertation Writing Support Fellowship, a Summer Language Study Fellowship, and an Other Support Fellowship. Each is awarded to graduate students with research pertaining to South Asia. Additionally, we provide small grants and conference reimbursements for national and international conferences to students whose research pertains to South Asia.
