A graduate of the University of Ibadan in Nigeria, Nigerian hematology oncologist Funmi Olopade specializes in understanding the root causes of aggressive breast cancer. She is particularly interested in its genetic bases in young women of African ancestry in the US and West Africa, the topic of her MacArthur Fellowship research (2005). Through the Center for Global Health, Olopade engages with African partners for medical research and education. She facilitated the gift from the Kiphart Family Foundation to establish the new Susan and Richard Kiphart Center for Global Health and Social Development housed at the Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice.
