Kaxton Siu researches comparative labor studies, migration studies, urban sociology, and youth studies. He also specializes in Chinese society, Vietnamese society, Japanese society, and Cambodian society. Siu has published in journal papers and book chapters on these topics. He is currently working as principal investigator on a research project that investigates Chinese investors in Vietnam and Cambodia and their impact on industrial relations systems and labor standards.
Siu’s book, Chinese Migrant Workers and Employer Domination: Comparisons with Hong Kong and Vietnam, was published by Palgrave Macmillian in 2020. His forthcoming book written in collaboration with Stephen WK Chiu, Hong Kong Society: High Definition Stories beyond the Spectacle of East-Meets-West, is set to be published in 2021 by Palgrave Macmillan.
Siu received his PhD from the Australian National University. He obtained his MPhil and BSc from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He has been a partner in the UChicago-PolyU-PekingU Tripartite collaboration since 2016.
