YANG Dongjiang’s research focuses on design and lifestyle, and contemporary international design exhibition mechanisms. He has compiled and published numerous academic monographs, including A History of Modern and Contemporary Chinese Interior Design and Overseas Architects and Chinese Modern Architectures, and over 40 academic papers.

YANG has directed interior design projects for the Reception Hall of the State Council for the People’s Republic of China, the office building of the China International Culture Exchange Center, and the National Library of China, as well as the environmental and public facilities for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

He has also curated several exhibitions, which include: the China International Metal Design Exhibition (Beijing, 2009), the First Beijing International Design Triennial (Beijing, 2011), Design Shanghai (Shanghai, 2013), Designing China for Milan Design Week (Milan, 2014), the China Pavilion of the Gwangju Design Biennale (Gwangju, 2015), Dialogue with Leonardo Da Vinci at the 4th Art and Science International Exhibition (Beijing, 2016), From Monet to Soulages: Paths of Modern Western Painting 1800-1980 (Beijing, 2017), the Exhibition Matrix for Milan Design Week (Milan, 2017), Chinese Episode for Seoul Design Week (Seoul, 2018), and the China Design Exhibition (Shenzhen, 2019).

As general curator and director, in collaboration with China Central Television (CCTV), YANG filmed the major TV series Design for China: Foreign Architects and Contemporary Chinese Architecture (18 episodes). The documentary film was shown nationally on CCTV during the 2008 Olympics and aroused widespread public attention to issues of contemporary Chinese architectural design. He also filmed the major TV series Design for World Expo in collaboration with CCTV (10 episodes). The film played a key role in the architectural designs at the Shanghai Expo from inception to construction.
