At the Mansueto Institute for Urban Innovation, our researchers come from the social, natural, and computational sciences, along with the humanities. Together, we pursue innovative, interdisciplinary scholarship, develop new educational programs, and provide leadership and evidence to support global, sustainable urban development.
The Neubauer Collegium for Culture and Society explores new possibilities for humanistic research collaborations at the University of Chicago. In its first six years the Neubauer Collegium has funded 87 interdisciplinary research projects, many of which bring research partners from institutions in the United States and abroad to address topics of global concern. More than 150 University of Chicago faculty from all Humanities and Social Sciences departments, all divisions and professional schools, have contributed to these efforts.

The South Asia Language Resource Center (SALRC) is a collaborative effort funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s International Education and Graduate Programs Service. It is one of fifteen nationwide that exist to improve the capacity to teach and learn foreign languages effectively. SALRC primarily focuses on the needs concerning South Asian language pedagogy in American universities. Because of the astonishing linguistic diversity of the South Asian region, no single U.S. university has the resources to address the demand for expertise.
The Susan and Richard Kiphart Center for Global Health and Social Development was established to advance research, training, and community initiatives to promote global health, health equity, and social development around the world. Focusing on the social determinants of health, the Kiphart Center draws on expertise and resources from the University of Chicago to foster interdisciplinary work across the fields of public health, medicine, and the social sciences to build knowledge, train students, and incubate innovative interventions.
Investigators at the University of Chicago’s Tang Center for Herbal Medicine Research are scientifically verifying the effects of herbs, including those have been used in the Far East for centuries and are now becoming more popular in the United States. Researchers have already uncovered some possible benefits and serious side effects of herbal remedies. Researchers at the Tang Center continue the long tradition of academic medicine at the University of Chicago.
UChicago Research Bangladesh (URB) is an international non-profit research organization affiliated with the University of Chicago, USA. URB conducts research, training, and community service activities for the improvement of human health in Bangladesh and beyond. URB also works closely with scientists, health professionals and policy makers from partner institutions in Bangladesh, the USA, and other countries.
