Since 2010, the University of Chicago Center in Beijing has provided a physical presence to enhance and strengthen the University’s traditionally strong ties to Chinese thought and culture. Building upon more than a century of collaboration between scholars from Chicago and China, the Center in Beijing enables the University to expand existing activities and form new alliances and partnerships with universities, businesses, medical centers, policy groups, government agencies, and cultural organizations in China. The Provost's Global Faculty Awards for Beijing allow University of Chicago faculty and OAAs to take advantage of the University's resources and expertise in China to amplify their existing collaborative work with Chinese partners and explore avenues for new relationships and initiatives.

Recipients of the PGFA-Beijing are not required to hold activities at the Center in Beijing; activities may take place anywhere in mainland China. However, of the Provost's Global Faculty Awards for Beijing will work closely with Center in Beijing staff as well as UChicago Global to plan and execute their planned activities.

The faculty director and members of the Center in Beijing Faculty Steering Committee may be consulted in formulating proposals. Prospective applicants are also encouraged to consult with UChicago Global staff at global@uchicago.edu regarding the substance of the proposal and budget.
